The thesis I wrote for my Masters of Computer Science Degree was a new machine learning algorithm that would analyze batches of computer files of known file types, automatically build "fingerprints" of each file type based on the contents of the files, then use those fingerprints to identify the file types of unknown files, regardless of what the file's extension claimed it was. Below are links to the full thesis research paper, and a much shorter article that was presented at the 36th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences and published in the conference proceedings.
Below are downloadable PDFs and web viewers of the full thesis research paper I submitted to the university, and of the shorter published article.
